‘They showed me a Ghana Must Go bag filled with cash’ – Captain Smart on offer he received at NIB

After stepping away from journalism to pursue a career in politics, outspoken Ghanaian media personality Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has made a series of allegations against the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a video shared on X on August 17, 2026, Captain Smart, while addressing some constituents, claimed that he was arrested 39 times within two years by the NPP government.

According to the journalist-turned-politician, who is contesting the Gomoa West parliamentary seat, the arrests were a result of his unwavering support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He explained that leaders of the then-ruling NPP were unhappy with his persistent criticism of their administration.

“I have always said that politics should not be an antagonistic game. You need people who can help. Which presenter in Ghana can say he or she supported the NDC more than I did? I was arrested 39 times because of the NDC,” he said.

Captain Smart further alleged that during one of the arrests, he was offered a Ghana Must Go bag filled with money.

According to him, the offer was intended to persuade him to stop criticising the NPP government.

He claimed he rejected the money because of his commitment to the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama.

“The day I was taken to the NIB, they offered me a bag full of money. They took me to a place called EFCC and when I got there, they showed me a Ghana Must Go bag filled with cash.

“They told me that if I stopped speaking against them, the money would be mine. Sammy Awuku can bear witness to this. One thing about me is that I am fair. If my party is wrong, I will tell them. In the same way, I will also speak against the NPP when they are wrong,” he added.
