Former Member of Parliament for the Gomoa Central Constituency, Rachel Florence Appoh, has launched a scathing attack on the current MP for the constituency, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, accusing him of disrespecting and belittling women.
Speaking on Neat FM on September 3, 2026, the former MP said she was interviewed on another media platform earlier in the day, after which A-Plus was also interviewed on the same platform.
According to Rachel Florence Appoh, during his interview, A-Plus made what she described as propaganda against her, claiming that she supports Winneba in the ongoing deadly land dispute between two constituencies in the Central Region.
Rachel Florence Appoh said A-Plus’ claim that she was supporting Winneba was intended to “run her down,” stressing that, as the first Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, she had made efforts in previous years to help resolve the land dispute.
She added that, as the third MP for the constituency, A-Plus should have appreciated the efforts made by his predecessors rather than belittling them.
She further noted that since A-Plus took over the seat, he has had two predecessors, including herself, but has never consulted any of them regarding the land dispute between the two constituencies.
“When A-Plus started, he had two predecessors in that constituency, but he has never consulted any of us in relation to the issue. Meanwhile, we took steps to resolve the dispute, which he does not know about, as he is the third MP.
“When I came, I was the first MP, so I didn’t really have anyone to go to for advice on how we could resolve the dispute in Gomoa. For you, you have two people, but you are belittling women. You are telling us that we are women and also saying I am young. How can you run me down and belittle me as the first Member of Parliament for the land? I am your senior,” she said.
Rachel Florence Appoh also described the recent clash between Gomoa and Effutu over the land dispute, which resulted in the death of three people, as a “total failure” on the part of Kwame A-Plus.
She argued that disagreements cannot be resolved through violence and criticised the MP for his approach to the dispute.
“What had happened is a total failure on the part of A-Plus, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central. When you go to Rome, you do what the Romans do. You cannot use violence to solve issues. What I can see while sitting, you, A-Plus, wouldn’t see even if you were standing. Apart from violence, this game, you cannot play it better than me,” she noted.
The former MP went on to blame A-Plus for what she described as mistakes that contributed to the deaths of the three individuals.
According to her, during her tenure as MP, they participated in five demonstrations without any deaths or injuries, describing this as an achievement.
“It is his mistakes that have led to the death of three people. Yesterday, he admitted that they did not get a permit from the police before embarking on the demonstration. To fund a demonstration without involving the police, and you are there running me down as a first Member of Parliament. Didn’t you know that when you were leading the people on a demonstration, it could have resulted in people getting injured? And you are not even showing remorse for the people who are dead.
“If I were the sitting MP, by now, the people would have been alive. When I served my one term, nobody died. Out of five demonstrations, nobody was injured, and that is an achievement for me,” she added.
Three people have reportedly died and at least 15 others, including a police officer have, sustained injuries following a violent clash involving a group of about 300 people at New Winneba in the Effutu North District of the Central Region.
