Twelve-year-old Ghanaian content creator Adobea has responded to the backlash surrounding a viral video in which she appeared to be drinking Smirnoff at an outdoor venue.
The footage, which showed the young creator sipping from a Smirnoff bottle while dancing, triggered strong reactions online, with some social media users questioning the conduct of the adults around her.
Amid the controversy, Adobea has rejected claims that she was consuming alcohol, explaining that the bottle contained water and was only used as a prop for content creation.
“Please, it was water, not Smirnoff. Even Sister Afia would not allow me to drink Smirnoff. We only poured water into the bottle; it was basically for content,” she said.
Adobea also apologised to Ghanaians and her fans over the incident, promising not to hold a Smirnoff bottle again in her content.
“Please, I am sorry. I would not hold a Smirnoff bottle again,” she added.
The clarification comes after the video sparked wider discussions about child protection, responsible content creation and the role of adults in supervising young social-media personalities. While Adobea maintains that the bottle contained only water, the controversy has continued to fuel debate over the kind of content involving children that should be created and shared online.
