NPP Ready to Face the Music, But Draws Line at Rambo-Style Arrests — Awuku

Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Hon. Sammi Awuku, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not resist democratic accountability but has criticised what he describes as the “Rambo-style” of arrests involving former public officials.
Speaking on UTV, Sammi Awuku said individuals who occupy public office must be prepared to account for their stewardship, regardless of their political affiliation.
“Once you occupy public office, you’ll be accountable; all have to account for their stewardship,” he stated.
He said the NPP would therefore not oppose legitimate investigations or democratic accountability, but stressed that such processes should be conducted through proper institutional channels rather than being preceded by social media campaigns.
“NPPs will not run away from accountability, but do not invite us through social media,” he said.
Sammi Awuku said his concern was not with accountability itself but with what he described as dramatic approaches to the arrest of former public officials.
“What we have demurred in the past is the Rambo-style drama that they use to characterise the arrest of persons that have once occupied public office,” he stated.
He maintained that public officials should be allowed to respond to legitimate investigations through the appropriate institutions rather than being subjected to trial summons through social media.
Sammi Awuku also urged young people to verify information before sharing it online, warning that deliberately spreading false allegations can cause unnecessary damage to individuals’ reputations.
