Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq., has described the victory of Dr Bryan Acheampong’s candidates in the just-ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) Eastern Regional Executive elections as a demonstration of his strong influence across the region.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the Akwatia MP said the regional contest had effectively become a battle between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Bryan Acheampong, given the political interests surrounding the election.
“It was a contest between Dr. Bawumia and Bryan Acheampong in the Eastern Region,” he said.
According to him, the eventual margin of victory demonstrated the extent of Bryan Acheampong’s support among delegates in the region.
“Bryan has shown that he is the governor of the East,” he stated.
Mr. Baidoo emphasised the significance of the victory, pointing to the wide gap between Bryan Acheampong’s supporters and other challengers from Dr Bawumia’s camp.
“The gap was great,” he stressed.
He said the outcome should therefore be viewed as an indication of Bryan Acheampong’s growing political strength in the Eastern Region and his ability to mobilise substantial support within the NPP’s grassroots structures.
