I accept responsibility for NPP’s poor performance in Greater Accra Region – Agorhom

Outgoing Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP, Divine Otoo Agorhom, says he accepts responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the region.

The NPP, which held 21 parliamentary seats in the Greater Accra Region in 2016, saw its representation reduced to just five seats in the 2024 elections.

Divine Otoo Agorhom has served as the party’s regional chairman since 2018.

Speaking to Citi  News at the delegates’ congress, where his successor is expected to be elected, Mr. Agorhom acknowledged that the party’s performance was largely influenced by the government’s performance but said he nonetheless accepts responsibility as regional chairman.

“I wouldn’t blame anyone who kind of lays the current situation at my doorstep. I would accept. I would accept for the reason that I’m the head of the party, so whatever happens, good or bad, you know, they will attribute it to you. That’s okay but in the real sense, it’s a kind of referendum on the performance of the government, and that is why we are in opposition.” he said.

Meanwhile, Divine Otoo Agorhom says the next regional chairman will have the arduous task of uniting the party.

He, however, believes this is achievable, citing the strong support attracted by the recent “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration as evidence of the party’s ability to mobilise its supporters around a common cause.
