Dormaahene, others slapped with GH₵30,000 fine each over Nsoatre chieftaincy dispute

The Supreme Court has ordered Dormaahene, Sumahene, and the Bono Regional House of Chiefs to each pay a fine of GH₵30,000 in favour of the Nsoatre Traditional Council in a high-stakes chieftaincy dispute.
The case stems from ongoing tensions over jurisdiction, chieftaincy declarations, and recognition within the Bono Region.
Nsoatre has asserted its independence from certain paramount stools and regional oversight, particularly regarding installation processes and registration with the National House of Chiefs.
Earlier proceedings included a Court of Appeal ruling that the Nsoatre side’s claim was not properly honoured, leading to the escalation to the Supreme Court.
According to a post by @weloveghana042 on June 10, 2026, the court ordered each of the three respondents to pay a fine of GH₵30,000, marking a legal victory for Nsoatre’s claims to autonomy in traditional governance.
A representative of the Nsoatre Traditional Council addressed supporters following the ruling, describing it as a clear affirmation by Ghana’s highest court and highlighting procedural shortcomings on the part of the respondents.
All parties are expected to comply with the orders while working towards peace and stability in the region.
