‘Akon had big deals for me, but P-Square didn’t like it’ – May D

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, May D, has made a series of allegations against the now-defunct music duo, P-Square.

This is linked to events that unfolded after he featured on their hit song “Chop My Money”.

Speaking on “The Brunch Podcast” in an interview shared on X on June 10, 2026, May D recounted how internationally acclaimed singer Akon allegedly planned to offer him international opportunities.

According to May D, the conversation with Akon took place in the United States during the shooting of the “Chop My Money” music video.

He explained that Akon expressed interest in working with him and even planned to fly him back to America to discuss potential projects.

May D further claimed that he informed P-Square about Akon’s plans because he expected them to support and celebrate the opportunity with him.

“When I got to America, Akon called me into his office while we were shooting the ‘Chop My Money’ video. He said, ‘Guy, I don’t want to say too much, but I have several deals for you. When you get back to Nigeria, call me. This is my number.’

He said, ‘I’ll book your flight and bring you back to America. You don’t have any deals with these guys, right?’ I said no. He replied, ‘I’m not going to say anything now. When you come back to America, we’ll talk.’

“So when I returned to Nigeria, being honest, I told P-Square,” he said.

Narrating further, May D claimed that opening up about Akon’s proposal turned out to be one of the decisions he later regretted.

According to him, he expected excitement and encouragement, but instead sensed discomfort from the group.

“I told them, ‘Guys, this is what Akon told me in America… I don’t want any issues.’

“If I had known, I probably wouldn’t have said anything. That’s what people keep telling me. Why did you tell them? Their reaction was very quiet, and I expected them to be happy for me, but it felt strange,” he added.
