Fire Breaks Out at Accra Central Police Barracks; No Casualties Recorded

A fire outbreak has been reported at the Accra Central Police Barracks, prompting an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service and senior officials of the Ghana Police Service.

According to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service on June 3, 2026, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene and are working to bring the situation under control.

The statement disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board and the Accra Regional Police Commander, visited the scene to assess the situation and ensure the necessary support is provided to affected personnel.

Police authorities indicated that no casualties have been recorded as a result of the incident. However, the cause of the fire remains unknown and investigations are underway to determine what triggered the outbreak.

In a significant development, the Police Service revealed that a suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting investigators with their inquiries into the incident.

The Ghana Police Service expressed appreciation to personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service and police officers who have been assisting in managing the situation.
