Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has outlined a series of achievements recorded in Ghana’s security and public safety sector under the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, the Minister disclosed that the first batch of 10,000 successful applicants to the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana Immigration Service are currently undergoing training.
He said another 10,000 recruits are expected to commence training next year from the existing pool of successful applicants.
On election-related killings, Mr Muntaka said 26 suspects have so far been put before the courts.
According to him, one of the suspects has been discharged, while the remaining 25 are currently standing trial.
He added that security agencies are pursuing a further 13 suspects for arrest, investigation and prosecution in connection with election-related killings.
The Interior Minister also disclosed that a total of 3,241 migrant beggars had been repatriated to neighbouring countries by July 2026.
He explained that 2,281 were repatriated by the end of 2025, with an additional 960 repatriated between January and July 2026.
Meanwhile, operations by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) have resulted in 217 arrests and 165 prosecutions, as authorities intensify the fight against illicit drugs and related criminal activities.
Mr Muntaka said more than 8.5 tonnes of narcotic drugs and 45.4 million Tramadol tablets had been intercepted through the operations.
Authorities have also recovered 73 tainted assets linked to suspected criminal activities and seized more than 19 kilogrammes of gold in cases involving suspected drug-money laundering.
In addition, assets and cash valued at more than GH¢6.9 million and US$440,000 have been restrained as part of efforts to disrupt the financial networks supporting illicit activities.
The Minister said the developments demonstrate the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s security institutions, combating organised crime and improving public safety.
