Real story behind viral teacher-student fight at Nyinahin Catholic SHS emerges

Fresh details have emerged on a chaotic fight between a teacher and a female student at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School which was captured in a viral video on social media.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 39-year-old teacher Eric Buernortey Apaflo after a viral video showed him physically confronting an 18-year-old female student, Patience Chibu, at the school’s hostel.

According to the police, the incident was not a random altercation but stemmed from a confrontation over alleged misconduct involving the female student and some male students at the hostel.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Apaflo [the male teacher in the video], who serves as the caretaker of the hostel, approached the student regarding the alleged misconduct. However, the situation reportedly escalated into a misunderstanding, during which the teacher assaulted the female student,” the statement said.

The assault, captured on video and widely circulated online, sparked outrage among students.

Police said some students reacted by pelting stones at the teacher, while others allegedly invited youth from the Nyinahin community to the hostel in an apparent attempt to attack him.

The situation threatened to spiral into a larger disturbance but was brought under control through the swift intervention of a police patrol team from the Nyinahin District.

The teacher was arrested on June 8, 2026, at about 7:00 pm and remains in police custody assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile, the victim has been issued a Police Medical Report Form to undergo medical examination and receive treatment.

“A Police Medical Report Form has been issued to the victim for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect remains in police custody assisting with investigations,” the statement said.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed for calm, urging students and members of the public to seek lawful and peaceful avenues for resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence.
