The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, has called for an end to partisan recruitment into the National Security and other security agencies.
According to the Fomena MP, appointments to the country’s security institutions must be based on merit, competence and the ability to perform the required duties, rather than political affiliation.
He said relying on party loyalty as a basis for recruitment could undermine good governance and weaken Ghana’s security architecture.
Speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of the 9th REPAM-CDS Security Governance Conference on Thursday, September 3, Andrew Asiamah stressed that political affiliation should not determine who gets recruited into security institutions.
He urged authorities to consider the competence and qualifications of individuals when recruiting into security agencies.
“We are advocating that every Ghanaian is a Ghanaian. Let’s look for people who have what it takes to do the work, and I think that is what can actually help Ghana to move on. It’s not about partisanship” he said.
