VIDEO: Downpour paralyzes transport in Accra as roads become impassable

Commuters and motorists across major parts of Accra were left stranded for several hours on Wednesday evening following a heavy downpour that submerged key roads and brought traffic to a standstill.

The rains, which struck on the evening of June 3, left several routes impassable as floodwaters cut through major transport corridors, forcing vehicles to remain stationary in long queues for hours.

Among the worst affected areas was the Ashaiman Underbridge, a key link connecting Ashaiman to surrounding communities including Sakumono, Kanewu and Adjei Kojo, which was completely overtaken by floodwaters.

The flooding was not limited to Ashaiman alone, as several other parts of the capital also recorded severe waterlogging, disrupting movement and slowing traffic flow across multiple routes in the city.

Motorists were forced to endure prolonged delays, with some commuters spending more than five hours in traffic as alternative routes also became congested due to the widespread impact of the rains.
