NDC aspirant raises alarm over ‘neglect’ of pastors who backed party in 2024 elections

Richard Opee Amoako, an aspiring Deputy Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, has called on the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations to ensure that pro-NDC pastors who supported the party during the 2024 campaign season are not sidelined.

He made the appeal to Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, urging him to take the lead in acknowledging and engaging religious leaders who openly supported the party before and during the elections.

According to Amoako, several pastors who publicly declared their support for the NDC, prayed for the party and contributed to its campaign efforts have allegedly been neglected after the party’s electoral success.

He argued that while the party continues to engage with a wide range of religious figures, some individuals who were “on the ground and visible” during the campaign period have not been recognized.

“Some pastors openly showed their faces and supported the NDC. They prayed, campaigned and stood firmly with the party, but after victory, they have been neglected,” he said.

In a self-recorded video shared on social media following the recent National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, Amoako specifically mentioned the Founder and Leader of the Prophetic Hill Church, Prophet Nigel Gaisie and Prophet Nana Agyemang Owusu.

He claimed that these religious leaders, among others, played active roles in supporting the NDC during the campaign period but have not been adequately engaged in the post-election period.

“These men of God stood with the party when it mattered most. They prayed, they worked, and they supported the NDC openly,” he noted.

Amoako further expressed concern that the NDC is now being associated with a different set of religious figures, while overlooking those he described as “loyal supporters” during difficult times.

He urged the party’s leadership and the Office of the Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations to adopt a more inclusive approach in engaging religious stakeholders.

“We cannot afford to ignore those who stood with us. Recognition and engagement must be fair and balanced,” he added.

The aspiring Ashanti Regional Deputy Organizer emphasised that proper recognition of all supporters especially those who contributed during the campaign period, is crucial for strengthening party unity and maintaining trust within the NDC’s support base.
