The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, says the Nasara wing remains a crucial stakeholder in the party’s grassroots mobilisation drive.
Speaking during a courtesy call by Constituency Nasara Organisers at his office on Wednesday September 2, Chairman Odeneho said the wing’s role in community outreach and voter mobilisation, especially in Zongo communities, cannot be overstated.
The visit was to congratulate the Chairman and the newly sworn-in Regional Executive Committee on their election victory.
Touching on the party’s history, COKA rejected claims that the NPP is an Akan party.
“It always surprises me when critics mischaracterise the NPP as an exclusively Akan party.”
“They overlook the foundational contributions of stalwarts like Jator Kaleo, S.D. Dombo, and Abayifa Karbo, who hailed from northern Zongo communities and helped build this political tradition from its inception.” he said.
According to him, the formal establishment of the Nasara wing was a deliberate constitutional decision to recognise and honour the contributions of Zongo and northern communities to the UP-NPP tradition.
On the party’s electoral fortunes, COKA admitted that despite its historic ties and interventions in Zongos, the NPP has often underperformed in those areas during general elections.
“I charge you to work tirelessly to expand our reach in the Zongos and deliver a decisive victory for the NPP in 2028,” he declared, rallying the coordinators to secure the presidency for the party’s candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Nasara Coordinator, Alhaji Abubakar Razak, thanked the Regional Chairman for his open-door policy and strategic counsel.
“Our marching orders are clear. We remain fully committed to doing the heavy lifting required to secure a resounding victory for the NPP in 2028.” Alhaji Razak affirmed.
