Carlos Queiroz denies resigning as Black Stars coach

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has clarified that he has not officially resigned from his role, despite numerous media reports claiming otherwise.

Ghana’s World Cup campaign ended after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32, bringing the Black Stars’ hopes of progressing further in the tournament to an end.

In a farewell message shared on social media on July 5, 2026, the Portuguese tactician reflected on his time with the national team, noting that football teaches an important lesson: “You either win or you learn.”

His message was widely interpreted as a resignation, although the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has not confirmed any such decision.

In a viral video recorded abroad while walking with his daughter, Queiroz clarified that he has not stepped down as head coach of the Black Stars.

He explained that the message was intended to express gratitude to everyone involved in the tournament and to the fans who supported the team despite their early elimination.

“I didn’t resign; I only sent my message of gratitude,” he said in a video shared by The State News on X.
