Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Makafui Woanya, has indicated that in his new tenure, his focus will be more on presidential votes rather than parliamentary votes.
He says individuals who want to be parliamentary candidates can organize activities to ensure that they win their seats.
However, the presidential campaign in the Volta Region will be taken over by the executives of the political party.
“Having studied the Volta Region for a very long time, I think that we will concentrate on the presidential votes more than the parliamentary votes because we know that the presidential votes add up to the national votes, but the parliamentary votes do not add up to the national votes. So our concentration will be more on the presidential campaign than the parliamentary campaign.
Those who want to be parliamentary candidates can actually start in a manner that they themselves will be at the centre of activities, looking for the parliamentary seat. What is going to happen is that the presidential campaign will be taken over fully by constituency executives and electoral area executives down to the polling stations with the supervision of the regional executives.
“I can assure that Volta Region will not remain because the kind of things that they told the people of Volta for votes in the previous elections, including a 24-hour economy; now what we are seeing is dumsor and nothing else. Ghanaians are now realizing that they have to go back to the NPP because that is the only way to survive,” he said.
