Strika Allegedly Caught Stealing Metal Scraps in Accra; Video Goes Viral

Ghanaian actor Emmanuel Nii Adom Quaye, popularly known as Strika and widely recognised for his role in Beasts of No Nation, is at the centre of a social media storm after a video allegedly showing him stealing metal components in Accra went viral.

The footage, which reportedly emerged from Kwashieman, a suburb of Accra, shows Strika being confronted by some residents after he was allegedly caught stealing metal components believed to have been removed from an overhead bridge.

In the viral video, the actor appears distressed as a group of residents surrounds him. He is also seen carrying some of the metal components on his head after being confronted.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been independently verified, and it remains unclear exactly what happened before the footage was recorded.

The video has nevertheless triggered widespread reactions online, with some social media users expressing concern about Strika’s reported struggles and the circumstances that may have led to the alleged stealing incident.

Some reports circulating online have linked the actor’s difficulties to financial hardship and hunger. There have also been claims over the years about substance abuse, but such allegations remain unverified unless supported by credible evidence.

Strika rose to international prominence as a child actor after starring in Beasts of No Nation, the acclaimed 2015 war drama directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. His performance alongside Idris Elba and fellow Ghanaian actor Abraham Attah brought him significant international attention at a young age.

However, his life after the success of the movie has generated concern among Ghanaians, particularly whenever reports or videos highlighting his struggles emerge online.

Following the latest viral footage, some Ghanaians have also questioned whether more could have been done to support Strika after his early breakthrough in the film industry.

A section of social media users has specifically mentioned Abraham Attah, arguing that Strika’s former co-star could have offered him greater support.

Others disagree, maintaining that individuals ultimately have responsibility for the choices they make and that Attah cannot be held solely responsible for Strika’s circumstances.

The controversy surrounding the video has therefore gone beyond the alleged stealing incident, prompting a wider conversation about child actors, sudden fame, career opportunities and the support systems available to young people after achieving international recognition.

As the footage continues to circulate, however, the full circumstances behind the alleged stealing incident remain unclear, and claims about Strika’s personal life should be treated cautiously until they are independently confirmed.
