The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has opened its Automated Fire Compliance and Safety System (AFCAS) platform to the public, allowing individuals and businesses to apply online for fire permits, fire certificates and fire equipment tagging.
The initiative forms part of the Service’s digital transformation agenda aimed at improving fire safety compliance, service delivery and regulatory enforcement across the country.
In a press statement dated 28th August 2026, the GNFS said the platform is available to business owners, homeowners, property managers, commercial property operators and vehicle owners.
According to the GNFS, the system is being implemented in accordance with the Fire Precaution (Premises) Regulations, 2003 (L.I. 1724), as amended by L.I. 2249.
Under Regulations 1 and 2 of L.I. 1724, all premises, whether residential or commercial, are required to obtain a fire permit before construction begins and a fire certificate after completion of the works.
Excerpts of the statement read, “Under Regulations 1 and 2 of L.I. 1724 (as amended), all premises in the country, whether commercial or residential, are required to obtain a fire permit prior to the commencement of building construction, and a fire certificate upon completion of the works. Regulations 11 and 12 further mandate that all fire alarms, fire equipment, and fire extinguishers be affixed with official GNFS tags for inspection”.
The regulations also require fire alarms, fire equipment and fire extinguishers to bear official GNFS tags to facilitate inspection and compliance monitoring.
The GNFS posits that AFCAS has been developed to strengthen the enforcement, monitoring and administration of fire safety regulations while making the compliance process more accessible to the public.
The Service further stated that the digital platform would also enhance collaboration between the GNFS and property owners and operators, while ensuring that fire safety requirements are effectively observed.
The GNFS urged the public and relevant stakeholders to make use of the platform to meet their statutory fire safety obligations and contribute to safer homes, businesses and communities across Ghana.
