The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six persons suspected to be members of an organised armed robbery syndicate operating within the Ashanti Region.
The arrests were made by the Regional Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi, following intelligence-led operations targeting suspected criminal activities in the region.
The suspects have been identified as Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa,” aged 23; Hadi Samed, alias “Toronto,” aged 20; Issahaku Musah, alias “Isak,” aged 23; Suraj Mohammed, alias “Baba Nde” and “Trouble,” aged 27; Hadi Abdul Majeed, alias “Panie,” aged 23; and Foster Owusu Afriyie, alias “Joe Fraizer,” aged 45.
Addressing a press conference at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osei Akoto, said six other suspects identified as Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik, Abdul Shattar, and Abdul Farouk are currently at large.
He said the police have intensified efforts to locate and arrest the suspects still at large.
“The operation also led to the retrieval of six laptops, three tablets, several mobile phones, machetes and knives from the suspects,” he said.
The Regional Commander disclosed that some of the suspects had previously been arrested on December 6, 2025, for alleged conspiracy to commit crime, including robbery and attempted robbery which the suspects were subsequently arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court 1, where the case is still pending, and were granted bail by the court.
“Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa,” and Hadi Samed, alias “Toronto,” were among those previously arrested, while Abdul Shattar, who was also linked to the case, is currently at large,” he said.
DCOP Osei Akoto said investigations following their release indicated that some of the suspects had allegedly resumed their criminal activities.
He added that the police are pursuing all credible leads to locate Abdul Shattar and the other suspects who remain at large.
The six arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are being prepared for prosecution.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public of its determination to intensify its fight against armed robbery and other violent crimes in the region.
The Command says it will continue to pursue all credible leads, apprehend suspects still at large and ensure that persons found culpable are brought before the appropriate court.
