NPP Begins Vetting National Officers Today

The vetting of officers seeking national executive positions of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) begins today and ends on September 3, 2026.

It follows the deadline for filing nomination forms last Saturday, during which 47 applicants filed to contest various positions in the party’s 2026 National Officers Elections.

Although 50 individuals had earlier purchased nomination forms to contest the various national officer positions, three of the prospective candidates did not complete the filing process before the deadline.

The three individuals who purchased nomination forms but did not file are Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, who had expressed interest in the National Chairperson position; Evans Kodom, who sought to contest the National Communications Director position, and Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada, who had intended to contest the National Women’s Organiser position.

Vetting

A statement signed by the Chairman of the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), Frederick Opare-Ansah, said the 47 aspirants who duly filed their forms would now proceed to the vetting stage.

It said Mr Antwi-Boasiako formally communicated his decision to withdraw his candidature to the party, while Mr Kodom announced his withdrawal when he accompanied Dennis Miracles Aboagye during the latter’s filing of nomination forms.

It said Mr Aboagye was now the only aspirant proceeding to the vetting stage for the position of National Communications Director.

For the National Women’s Organiser position, the Committee said Ms Akwada failed to present her completed nomination forms to the Secretariat before the 6 p.m. deadline and will therefore not proceed to the vetting stage.

Schedule

The statement said those seeking to contest the positions of National Chairperson, General Secretary and National Treasurer would be vetted today (August 31) while those seeking National Vice- Chairperson positions would take their turn on September 1, 2026, with candidates for National Organiser and National Youth Organiser following on September 2, 2026.

The vetting will end on Thursday, September 3, 2026, with candidates for the position of National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and the National Women’s Organiser.

Orderliness

The statement commended the aspirants and their representatives for what it described as the orderly manner in which the nomination and filing processes had been conducted.

It also acknowledged the work of its secretariat and other officials involved in receiving, documenting and securely processing the nomination forms.

It called on all aspirants, their supporters and party members to maintain mutual respect and conduct themselves in ways that promote party unity and confidence in the electoral process.

The statement reaffirmed the party’s commitment to administering the 2026 National Officers Elections in accordance with the NPP Constitution and the rules and regulations governing the elections.

Elections

The national executive elections are scheduled for October 3, 2026.

The elections will cover nine national executive positions, with three of the four Vice-Chairperson slots to be designated First, Second and Third Vice-Chairpersons, bringing the total number of national executive positions to 11.

The positions are National Chairman, Vice-Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Communications Director, National Treasurer, National Youth Organiser and National Nasara Organiser.
