Residents of Tetegu have denied allegations linking them to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, at the Weija Lake.
The residents insist they have no involvement in illegal mining activities within or around the lake.
Instead, they have raised concerns about the activities of a changfan operating on the lake, alleging that the machine may be dredging sand and depositing the extracted material along the banks of the water body.
According to the residents, the alleged sand dredging has raised concerns about the condition of the lake and its surrounding environment.
They are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to investigate activities taking place on the lake and determine whether the operations are authorised and comply with environmental regulations.
