Why we elected Bawumia to lead us to the promise land – Awal Mohammed

NPP Communicator Awal Mohammed has defended the party’s approach to selecting political candidates, insisting that electoral success depends heavily on demographic positioning rather than individual popularity.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, he said the party deliberately considers regional balance and voting patterns when making key electoral decisions.
“In elections, demography is very important, where you come from matters, where your votes are coming from matters,” he said.
He pointed to the selection of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a calculated decision based on regional advantage, particularly his northern background.
“We chose Dr. Bawumia strategically because he is from the North and a Muslim northerner, we knew it would bring votes from there,” he said.
He added that the party’s electoral calculations have shown measurable outcomes in some constituencies where performance improved after such strategic choices.
Awal Mohammed also questioned the electoral track record of former minister Alan Kyerematen, arguing that past performance should inform how seriously candidates are assessed.
“In his entire political life, he has never really won elections,” he claimed.
