Ranking Member of Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, has questioned the delay in operationalising the Agenda 111 hospital at Trede in the Ashanti Region, arguing that the facility is ready to serve residents and only requires personnel to begin operations.
Speaking on the state of the project on Asempa FM, Dr. Afriyie expressed frustration over what he described as the continued neglect of a completed healthcare facility despite the region’s pressing healthcare needs.
“What did we do wrong in the Ashanti Region?” he asked.
According to him, the Trede Agenda 111 Hospital has already been equipped with the necessary infrastructure and is capable of providing healthcare services once staff are posted to the facility.
“The Agenda 111 hospital at Trede only needs personnel to begin operations,” he stated.
The legislator questioned why the government had not yet taken the necessary steps to make the hospital functional.
“What is preventing the government from operationalising it?” he asked.
Dr. Afriyie further suggested that the delay is creating frustration among residents who expected the facility to be opened after its completion.
“Why are they treating the Ashanti Region like that?” he queried.
He warned that prolonged inactivity could lead to the deterioration of valuable medical equipment and infrastructure at the facility.
“If they do not take care, all the gadgets and equipment will be destroyed because of the neglect,” he cautioned.
The lawmaker therefore called on the government and the Ministry of Health to expedite the deployment of healthcare workers to the hospital to ensure that the investment begins delivering healthcare services to the people of Trede and surrounding communities.
