Government suspends licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited

The government, through the Ministry of the Interior, has suspended the licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited following the shooting incident involving the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 22, 2026, the ministry explained that the Private Security Organisation (PSO) operating licence for the company was being revoked after preliminary investigations found breaches during its operation on Sunday, even though it did not directly mention the shooting incident involving the former legislator.

The statement, which was signed by the Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, indicated that officers of the security company used unapproved uniforms and guns in the said operation.

“The decision was taken after preliminary investigations indicated possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operation of Private Security Organisations in Ghana.

“The usage of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security. Consequently, the Ministry has directed the company to immediately cease all operations forthwith pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter,” part of the statement read.

The ministry went on to urge all institutions in the country to refrain from conducting business with Kantanka Security Services Limited “pending the conclusion of investigations and further directives from the Ministry.”

It added that the suspension “is an administrative measure intended to safeguard public safety and security while investigations are ongoing,” adding that “appropriate action will be taken upon completion of the investigations and in accordance with the laws and regulations governing private security operations in Ghana.”
