The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly has denied allegations that it demolished a structure belonging to Sekyedumasi Community Bank PLC at the Aboabo Market in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement dated Thursday, August 13, the Assembly described the allegation as “fabricated, completely false and without basis,” insisting that it has the utmost respect for the judicial process and would not sidestep due process or usurp the authority of the court.
According to the Assembly, it engaged the bank and other occupants of the market site for nine months and gave them adequate time to evacuate ahead of a planned demolition exercise.
It said although the demolition exercise was eventually carried out in June and July 2026, the structure belonging to Sekyedumasi Community Bank PLC was not demolished.
The Assembly further explained that it had entered an appearance in a suit filed against it by the bank and, therefore, would not take any action that could undermine the authority of the court.
It added that the standard procedure for demolition exercises requires adequate prior notice to be given, with Assembly staff supervising the exercise and security agencies providing support.
“Any purported demolition exercise outside the standard procedure outlined above cannot be interpreted as having been carried out by the Assembly,” the statement said.
The Assembly said the allegation could be viewed as a deliberate attempt to discredit it in the eyes of the public.
It has consequently reaffirmed its respect for and commitment to due process of law.
