‘I did not block Minority MPs from inspecting Afari Hospital’ – Atwima Nwabiagya MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya, Wisdom Osei Boamah, has denied claims that he instructed individuals to block Minority MPs from accessing the Afari Military Hospital or threatened a security officer at the facility.

His response follows a tense encounter between Minority Members of Parliament and military personnel during a recent visit to the hospital, which the MPs say was part of efforts to assess its operational status and push for its completion to ease pressure on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

In a statement dated Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Mr. Boamah described the allegations circulating in parts of the media as “false, baseless and misleading.”

He said reports suggesting he had deployed individuals to obstruct the MPs or threatened a security officer with dismissal were completely untrue.

“At no point have I made any call to threaten, intimidate, or seek the removal of any staff member of the hospital. Neither have I sent any person or group of persons to obstruct or prevent the Minority MPs from visiting the facility,” he stated.

According to him, the Afari Military Hospital is a secured military installation under the control of the Ghana Armed Forces, with strict access protocols that must be followed by all individuals, including public officials.

He explained that even in his capacity as MCE, he is required to seek permission from the appropriate military authorities before entering the facility.

Mr. Boamah further clarified that although the hospital is located within the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality, the Assembly has no administrative or operational authority over it.

He stressed that issues of security, management, and access remain solely under the jurisdiction of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The MCE urged the public to disregard the allegations and cautioned against the spread of misinformation, calling for responsible communication to protect confidence in public institutions.
