Kurt Okraku: Black Stars can ‘win the war’ at 2026 World Cup

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has expressed strong confidence that the Black Stars are well-equipped to make a major impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz has officially named his 26-man squad for the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ghana head into the competition still searching for a breakthrough after failing to progress beyond the group stage in both the 2014 and 2022 editions in Brazil and Qatar, respectively.

But Okraku insists the current group of players has what it takes to change that narrative.

Speaking on the Delay Show, he said the national team is built for success and should approach the tournament with a winning mentality.

“Ghana will be represented by the best players, Ghana will be very competitive, and the target is that we are going to war. When you are going to war, you don’t plan to lose the battle, and that is the vision,” he said.

“I am extremely confident that we are going to war and we will win the war,” Okraku added.

Ghana, making their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia—one of the toughest groups in the competition.

The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. Their final group match will be against Croatia on June 27.
