Former Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, has assured that members of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Northern Regional Election Committee cannot be bribed or influenced to favour any candidate in the ongoing regional elections.
Mr Saeed, who is a member of the Regional Election Committee in charge of security operations and also serves as Political Advisor to the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, said the composition of the committee was deliberately structured to guarantee an impartial and credible electoral process.
Speaking to the media at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, where the elections are being held, he said the committee includes the NPP National Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, and other experienced members, with regional executives excluded from the committee.
He said the arrangement was intended to prevent any regional executive from influencing the outcome of the polls in favour of a particular aspirant.
According to him, the committee is determined to protect the credibility of the elections, the integrity of the NPP and the reputation of the Northern Region.
“We are not using any regional executive to be part of the committee. So nobody can bribe us. Nobody can convince us to do something to favour candidate B or aspirant C. No, we are here to ensure that the credibility of ourselves, the credibility of the party, the integrity of Northern Region is highly protected,” he said.
The elections will see delegates vote to elect regional executives, including the Regional Chairman, First and Second Vice Chairpersons, Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Communications Officer and Nasara Coordinator.
Mr Saeed urged aspirants, supporters, observers, the media and security personnel to cooperate with the committee to ensure a peaceful and orderly exercise.
He also called on the media to monitor the process closely and draw the attention of the committee to any suspicious activity or conduct that could undermine the elections.
He said the committee was determined to ensure that the Northern Regional polls emerged among the best-conducted elections across the 16 regions.
