The newly elected Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Oti Region have called on government to urgently complete and operationalise the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) office and staff accommodation projects, as well as other projects initiated by the previous administration.
The party says prolonged delays in completing the projects are worsening the region’s existing challenges with office space and accommodation.
Speaking in Dambai, Oti NPP Regional Chairman, Dr Frank Yirenkyi, said several facilities initiated by the previous NPP administration to address the infrastructure deficit were virtually completed, with some reportedly reaching 98 per cent completion, but had remained unused since the change in government.
He cited the Regional Police Commander’s residence and other projects, which he said required only electricity connections to become habitable but had allegedly remained idle for more than a year.
Dr Yirenkyi questioned whether the projects were being neglected because they were initiated under an NPP administration and urged authorities to prioritise public interest over partisan considerations.
He also criticised what he described as the slow pace of development in the region, alleging that the current Oti Regional Minister was operating from a facility originally constructed for the Krachi East Municipal Assembly, while ORCC staff work from multiple locations.
The party appealed to President John Mahama and the Oti Regional Minister to honour assurances that abandoned projects would be completed.
It stressed that the projects were funded with taxpayers’ money and should not be allowed to deteriorate.
Meanwhile, Oti NPP Regional Communications Officer, Seidu Musah, told Adom News that the newly elected executives would continue to draw attention to stalled development projects across the region.
He said the party would engage relevant stakeholders to push for clear timelines and action towards the completion of the projects.
