Twenty-eight elected Assembly Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have issued a one-week ultimatum demanding the resignation or replacement of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jerryne Asante.
Addressing the press on July 24, 2026, the Assembly Members said they had unanimously resolved to give the MCE one week, effective immediately, to voluntarily resign from office.
They also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to replace her within the same period if she failed to step down.
“All the 28 elected Assembly Members have resolved that we are giving an ultimatum of one week, starting today, that the woman, that is the MCE, Honourable Jerryne Asante should in her own will put up a resignation letter and recuse herself from the office, or we are pleading to the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to replace Honourable Jerryne Asante within this said one week,” a spokesperson for the group said.
The members warned that they would boycott working with the MCE if she remained in office beyond the deadline.
“If after one week she continues to be here, we will come and register our displeasure by not allowing her to work as MCE,” the spokesperson added.
The Assembly Members also accused the MCE of preventing them from accessing the Assembly Hall ahead of the scheduled confirmation exercise.
According to them, they arrived at the premises only to find the facility locked.
They alleged that the Estate Officer informed them the MCE had instructed her personal aide to collect all the keys to the Assembly Hall, leaving them without access to the venue for the meeting.
“The response we got was that the MCE instructed her personal aide to come and take all the keys to the Assembly Hall… So now we don’t have access to the hall. That is why we are sitting here for this press conference,” the spokesperson stated.
The group further disclosed that officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), who were expected to supervise the confirmation election, informed them that they had received a letter directing that the meeting be postponed.
They said the Presiding Member had also received a letter from the Regional Minister instructing that the meeting be postponed and directing Assembly Members not to proceed with it.
However, the Assembly Members rejected the directive, arguing that it contravenes the Local Governance Standing Orders.
They maintained that only the Presiding Member has the authority to convene or postpone an Assembly meeting, not the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) or the Regional Minister.
“We are saying that, per our modern standing orders, nowhere is it stated that an RCC or Regional Minister can order an Assembly or a district not to have a meeting. It is clear in our standing orders that the only person that has power to convene a meeting or to postpone a meeting is the Presiding Member. That letter that we received, we are not giving attention to that letter,” the spokesperson added.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) had previously appeared before the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) of the Assembly over concerns deemed detrimental to the development of the municipality.
During the hearing, the Committee advised her to address the issues after she acknowledged some of the concerns raised. However, she allegedly failed to implement the Committee’s recommendations, prompting Assembly Members to initiate a motion seeking a vote of no confidence against her.
Ejisu MCE reportedly attacked in her office
The Assembly Members were expected to convene an emergency General Assembly meeting on Friday, July 24, 2026, to consider the motion.
However, the process could not proceed after they arrived to find the Assembly auditorium locked, preventing the meeting from taking place.
