United Party’s Solomon Owusu President Mahama’s government should stop measuring its performance against the previous administration and instead focus on delivering measurable progress.
Speaking on Joy News, he argued that comparisons with former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government should not become the standard for evaluating the current administration.
“If President Mahama is going to benchmark his performance against the New Patriotic Party’s performance, then he would not help this country.”
According to Owusu, Ghana’s challenges require a higher standard.
“We must give him benchmarks to satisfy.”
He suggested that the shortcomings of the previous administration have created a low bar that the current government can easily surpass.
“If you compare him to the previous administration, he is doing very well.”
However, he warned that outperforming a predecessor is not the same as delivering meaningful national progress.
“The expectation is that he should be operating at a higher level.”
Owusu said citizens should judge government based on whether it creates jobs, improves agriculture and expands infrastructure rather than whether it performs better than those who came before it.
