UP’s Inusah cites Samreboi shooting incident during debate on Wontumi Trial

Director of Research for the United Party, Ramzi Inusah, has linked the ongoing debate over Chairman Wontumi’s trial to past incidents he says demonstrate the wider consequences of illegal mining activities.

Inusah referenced reports from Samreboi and argued that public discussions about galamsey often ignore the impact on local communities.

“Do you know that around 2022, two youth members of the Agri Youth Association of Samreboi were shot by watchmen of Akonta Mining?” he said on 3News.

According to him, incidents such as those were among the developments that drew attention to concerns surrounding the mining company’s operations.

“That led to this press release. So please, let us be measured in what we say,” he added.

Inusah said the discussion should not focus solely on political personalities but on the experiences of people living in affected communities.

While noting that investigations and court processes are still underway, Inusah argued that past allegations and community grievances should not be ignored.

“We are waiting for the outcome of the investigation,” he said.
