What latest Global InfoAnalytics poll reveals about NPP’s standing in Ashanti Region

New polling data shared by the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, suggests that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may be regaining ground in its traditional Ashanti Region stronghold ahead of the 2028 elections, while support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) appears to be dwindling.

In a post shared on his X page, Dankwah released figures indicating that NPP party affiliation in the Ashanti Region has risen from 34% to 37%, while NDC affiliation has dropped sharply from 30% to 18%.

The data also showed that the percentage of respondents unwilling to disclose their political affiliation increased from 9% to 16%, while support for other political parties climbed from 4% to 6%.

Floating voters remained unchanged at 23%.

Reacting to the figures, Dankwah questioned whether the NPP’s slight recovery in the region could translate into a stronger electoral performance for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a future presidential contest.

“Will the improvement in the party affiliation for the NPP in the region result in an improved performance for Dr Bawumia against Asiedu Nketia, Haruna Iddrisu, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang or Ato Forson in the region?” he asked.

He further wondered whether Dr Bawumia is beginning to outperform his 2024 election numbers in the Ashanti Region, long considered the electoral heartbeat of the NPP.

Beyond the numbers, Dankwah suggested that the latest trends may point to a broader political shift taking place within the region, where traditional partisan loyalty appears to be gradually weakening.

“Has the new Ghana arrived in the Ashanti Region too where partisan affiliations and its influence in the behaviour of voters is diminishing?” he wrote.

According to the pollster, the growing number of undecided or undisclosed voters could become a major factor in future elections, especially if both major political parties fail to consolidate their traditional support bases.
