The Rent Commissioner, Mr. Frederick Opoku, in an interview monitored by riddimzghana.com has disclosed that he will petition President John Dramani Mahama to resource the Rent Control Department to enable it to effectively discharge its mandate.
According to him, President Mahama appointed him to fix the rent challenges in the country, and he must therefore be given the necessary resources and logistics to deliver.
Mr. Opoku exclaimed that the Rent Control Department is currently under-resourced, a situation which is hampering its operations and making it difficult for officers to enforce rent laws and address the numerous complaints from tenants and landlords.
He noted that with the current housing challenges and exorbitant rent charges facing many Ghanaians, especially in urban centres, the department needs urgent retooling to be effective.
He assured the public that once properly resourced, his outfit will work to sanitize the rental housing space and protect both tenants and landlords.
